Program Overview:
E-Gap Kenya, in partnership with Oasis Mathare, established a free community-based library in the Mathare slums to provide access to reading and learning materials for underprivileged children.
The library project was initiated to address the lack of access to reading materials among poor children in the slums, supporting 50 primary school children on a daily basis.
The program receives support from organizations like Book-aid International, Visa-Oshwal School, and Dernier Publishing United Kingdom, which have donated curriculum and reading books to needy children in the informal settlements.
These books are made available in the community library for learners to read on-site or borrow for home study.
Additionally, the program employs two trained teachers on a full-time basis to assist children in sharpening their reading skills through remedial classes, further enhancing the educational support provided by the library.
