Project Overview:
Implemented by E-Gap Kenya in partnership with HELP Dadaab U.K., this project focuses on two key initiatives: refugee teachers training and secondary education scholarships for underprivileged children in ASAL areas.
Under the scholarship programme, 30 bright but underprivileged students were awarded full secondary education scholarships, covering tuition fees, school uniform, and boarding materials.
Parents' involvement was encouraged through providing shoes, transportation, school pocket money, and visiting their children at least once a term.
Scholarship recipients benefited from a school holiday mentorship programme, guiding them on career choices, innovation, and resilience.
Additionally, the project facilitated the capacity building of 80 primary and secondary school in-service teachers in Dadaab refugee camp through face-to-face training, practical sessions, and peer-to-peer mentorship.
Despite being prematurely ended in December 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project achieved significant outputs including the design of programme implementation plans, recruitment of scholarship beneficiaries, provision of scholastic materials, mentorship activities, and capacity building of refugee teachers.
